The decision of the Basic Court in Užice, by which seven citizens were ordered into 30 days of detention, is yet another in a series of scandalous moves by the regime of Aleksandar Vučić. The government continues to persecute, arrest, and intimidate the best part of this society—all for the sake of preserving personal power.
The wording of the crime they are charged with bears no relation to the facts or the truth. It is a message: freedom of thought is being punished, and the regime will stop at nothing to defend itself. It is clear how far it is willing to go and what awaits anyone who refuses to remain silent and compliant.
While students, professors, lawyers, and councilors are imprisoned for their civic courage, criminals, war criminals, hooligans, and murderers walk the streets freely. This is the image of Serbia created and defended by the Serbian Progressive Party—a country where knowledge, honesty, and responsibility are not desirable values, but a threat to the regime. In such a system, the best become targets.
The Solidarity Civic Movement calls on everyone to stand with free and proud Užice, a city that even today continues to show courage and resistance. Let us stand united. Let us come together and persevere as long as it takes. Only together can we stop a government that declares its own citizens enemies and treats them as a threat.
