PROGRAM
We, the united citizens of this country, commit ourselves to building a freer, more open and fairer society with our united forces, guided by the ideas of fairness, equality, responsibility and solidarity. The kind of society we deserve - in which the public interest is above the private, in which the holders of public offices are responsible to all of us and in which the institutions serve the common good. Therefore, our path to the European Union is based on: social justice, education, economic development, science, healthcare and public health, social protection, progressive social policy, culture and togetherness.
Social justice can only be ensured through the decisive and consistent democratization of society as a whole, as well as the promotion and defense of civil rights. We must ensure a greater degree of inclusion of citizens in decision-making processes through essential decentralization, meritocratic principles, transparent work of institutions and the replaceability of their managers, for which the restoration of the damaged rule of law and the re-establishment of legal security are a prerequisite.
Education at all levels must be accessible to everyone and have an emancipatory and enlightening role, with the aim of developing critical thinking and scientific literacy. The autonomy guaranteed to institutions of higher education should be provided by law to all educational institutions, and educational policies should be directed towards the full development of personal and professional capacities of all individuals involved in educational processes.
The economic development of the state must not harm people or the environment. Accordingly, the priority is an economy that has the protection of natural resources and biodiversity, sustainability and as much economic equality as possible, and opposes unregulated industrial growth, which is a goal in itself. Labor rights need to be secured through the safety of working conditions, as well as encouraging trade union organization and collective bargaining. Large economic systems must remain owned by the state, while the economic security of the population must be supported by progressive taxation, an increase in social benefits, as well as greater labor rights, all with the goal of a fairer redistribution of resources.
Science and scientific research are a key aspect of technological and economic development. It is necessary to increase public investments in this domain, to renew research infrastructures and regional and international networking, as this would improve cooperation and strategic positioning at the European and global level. Reduction of bureaucratic burden, unnecessary regulations and tax incentives for investment would encourage greater involvement of the academic community in solving complex social problems and challenges.
Healthcare and public health are a direct investment in the quality of life of individuals and the entire society, and they must be of high quality and accessible to everyone. This is possible only through a fundamental reform of health policy that would improve the working conditions of health workers and health services, with an emphasis on prevention. Public health must be a collective responsibility, dominated by universal access to health care, care for all social groups and strata, and the understanding that social determinants of health, such as housing, employment, food and environmental safety, are as important as medical treatment itself. That is why the fight for public health is actually a fight for democracy.
Social protection must be available to all as a universal right and serve as a mechanism of social solidarity and equality. Its role is not only to provide support in times of need, but it should include social action and empowerment of individuals, groups and/or communities through social security, economic justice and active involvement in social processes. The social protection system must be based on the principles of fairness, dignity, participation and respect for the human rights of all citizens. All institutions and mechanisms of social protection must be directed towards the creation of a just society, where everyone has equal opportunities to achieve well-being.
Progressive social policy rests on responsibility in all domains of society. We stand for uncompromising gender equality, reproductive rights, inclusion, and equal rights of all unfairly marginalized groups. Likewise, we promote a secular state and policies based on scientific knowledge. The hallmarks of this policy are internationalism and global cooperation, in terms of respecting global human rights, advocating fair trade, fighting against imperialism, colonialism, and economic exploitation of all kinds.
Culture must rest on free public goods, educational and cultural institutions, and media. Instead of serving the public interest, our institutions have become instruments of repression and control. Together, we must enable them to work independently and support every type of association aimed at fostering dialogue, preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage, encouraging creativity, as well as local media and independent research platforms.
Togetherness occurs when we recognize the challenges faced by different social groups as problems of society as a whole. Our society should rest on the empowerment of individuals, which is why we are committed to the continuous fight against poverty, inequality and discrimination. We must nurture our multicultural reality through a culture of dialogue, which cannot exist without mutual respect and recognition of the importance of diversity.
