Yesterday, the headquarters of Solidarity in Novi Sad hosted a meeting between young politicians from European Youth Denmark and our members, organized on the initiative of the European Youth Movement.

Representatives of EYD originating from Slovakia, Greece, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, and other countries wanted to hear the voice of a civic, democratic, and European Serbia about what is truly happening in our country today.

We discussed the corruption that led to the deaths of 16 people in the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station, the student protests, police violence against demonstrators, and the attitude of political parties toward the crisis. We agreed that the full implementation of EU standards and Serbia’s integration into the European Union are guarantees for achieving justice for the victims and ensuring the functioning of democratic institutions in the interest of all citizens.

When asked what message should be conveyed to their leaders, ministers, and Members of the European Parliament, Veroslav Janković emphasized that “the most important thing is for EU officials to clearly tell the citizens of Serbia that Vučić’s regime does not have their support, that European integration has been halted, but also that the EU must unequivocally support Serbia’s European path through cooperation with the pro-European opposition, the implementation of all ODIHR recommendations, and the deployment of a large election observation mission for the next elections.”

Veroslav Janković, Milan Ćopić, and Radovan Skendžić introduced the young European politicians to our ideas, goals, and the “Novi Sad Declaration” of Solidarity, which particularly sparked their interest.
