The Targeting of Journalists Must Stop Immediately!

The attack on Danica Vučenić is unacceptable. It did not come out of nowhere, and it is not only an attack on her. It is a threat to everyone who has the courage to ask questions, who refuses to remain silent, and who refuses to accept lies as truth.

The attacks on Danica Vučenić must not be relativized. Aleksandar Vučić, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), and pro-government tabloids are placing targets on people according to a well-known pattern.

The Serbian regime has already shown in the past what the consequences of targeting journalists can be. Before his assassination, Slavko Ćuruvija was publicly branded an enemy. Dada Vujasinović and Milan Pantić remain permanent reminders of what happens in a society where the truth is suppressed. Their killers have never been brought to justice. That is why this renewed campaign of targeting must stop immediately.

Solidarity demands that the relevant institutions react without delay and employ all available legal mechanisms. We also warn the regime that creating an atmosphere in which journalists are marked as prey will carry serious legal consequences in the near future.
