The Regime Is Escalating Violence Against Citizens, Solidarnost Calls for a Long-Term EU Election Observation Mission

Attacks on citizens, hate speech in the streets, on television, and across social media have become part of everyday life. Criminal gangs roam our cities while the police are nowhere to be seen.

On July 4, lawyer Danko Cvejić was beaten in front of his children. A week later, on July 11, writer Vladimir Arsenijević was brutally assaulted ahead of a commemoration for the victims of Srebrenica, forcing the event to be cancelled.

President Aleksandar Vučić has announced his resignation and early parliamentary elections to be held in October or November. Citizens want elections and an end to the current regime.

Who can guarantee the safety of citizens, and who will feel safe enough to go to the polling station?

The Citizens' Movement Solidarnost reiterates its call for an urgent long-term European Union election observation mission, with a mandate beginning at least one month before election day. This request was presented by Goran Ješić and Jasna Matić to EU representatives on behalf of the Platform for a European Serbia.

Violence, hate speech, intimidation, and the abuse of state institutions are not isolated incidents—they are part of a systemic problem that prevents citizens from making free and independent democratic choices.
