Following the uncertain situation regarding the future of United Media in Serbia, GP Solidarnost calls for an urgent and comprehensive reform of the media system as a whole. Regardless of ownership structure, all media outlets are obliged to operate in accordance with the constitutionally guaranteed right of citizens to truthful, timely, and professional information. It is time to put an end to lawlessness. In this regard, two issues are of fundamental importance for the democratic order of Serbia:
Restoring RTS, the public service broadcaster that belongs to the citizens, to lawful operation.Editorial independence, balance in presenting political ideas, and adherence to professional standards are the foundation of an informed society. Without a professionally responsible and independent public broadcaster, there can be no trust between citizens and institutions.
Establishing a functional and independent REM.The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media must act as a genuine mechanism of public oversight, not as an extension of a single interest group. The consistent implementation of ODIHR recommendations is a prerequisite for a regulated media environment. There can be no compromise on this.
Media pluralism is not measured by the number of channels, but by the respect for rules that apply equally to all. A democratic society begins where the media are free, responsible, and equally treated before the law. A citizen deprived of accurate information and exposed to propaganda is directly prevented from exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right, as the source of sovereignty, to decide on their own and the collective future.
We therefore call on democratic forces in Serbia — parties, movements, students, and citizens — to urgently align on these issues and on the methods of action. Only through truth can Serbia emerge from the catastrophic state in which it currently finds itself.
