Release Jovović and Čeleketić or face the consequences

Statement by the Solidarity Movement on the Arrest of Provincial MP Radivoje Jovović and Activist Isidora Čeleketić

The Solidarity civic movement strongly condemns the brutal arrest of provincial MP and university professor Radivoje Jovović, as well as activist Isidora Čeleketić, who were detained during a peaceful protest in front of the court in Novi Sad. The regime of Aleksandar Vučić has once again revealed its true radical face—the face of violence, repression, and political persecution.

The arrest of an MP and an activist during the protest blockade of the court is a flagrant act of regime violence. While criminals and thugs affiliated with the SNS freely walk the streets, the police and the Prosecutor’s Office are jointly trampling on civil liberties.

This is not merely an attack on Jovović and Čeleketić—this is an attack on democracy and on the right of every citizen to fight for truth and justice. The Prosecutor’s Office, which, at the behest of Aleksandar Vučić, files politically motivated indictments, must be aware: the day will come when it will be held accountable before independent courts and the citizens of Serbia. Complicity in repression will not go unpunished.

Solidarity sends a clear message to the Prosecutor’s Office: choose—will you be mere executors of Vučić’s undemocratic orders today, or true defenders of rights and justice tomorrow?

We demand the immediate release of Radivoje Jovović, Isidora Čeleketić, and all arrested students and activists in Serbia!
