GP Solidarnost condemns the hate speech of Minister Snežana Paunović and calls for her immediate dismissal.

Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Snežana Paunović stated that in 1998 she would have "ethnically cleansed Kosovo of Albanians" and expelled more than one million people from their homes. Such a statement constitutes a clear example of hate speech and an open endorsement of ethnic cleansing.

This statement is not an isolated incident, but rather the unmasked face of the same political regime that ruled Serbia during the 1990s and has remained in power for the past fourteen years.

It should be recalled that around sixty thousand Albanians currently live in central Serbia as equal citizens of our country. Minister Paunović's statement is deeply offensive to them, as well as to all citizens of Serbia who aspire to live in a normal democratic state and society.

Such rhetoric further deepens the social crisis and fuels the toxic atmosphere in which we live. While dismissing Minister Paunović will not erase the harm caused by her remarks or the memory of the war crimes committed during the 1990s, it would send a clear message: Serbia must not allow a return to the politics of the 1990s.
