The Solidarity Civic Movement calls on the Serbian state to immediately cease its violence against its citizens. The brutality of the police and of state and para-state structures against peaceful demonstrators—students and citizens across Serbia—is a blatant violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms, and a direct attack on democracy and the rule of law.
During yesterday’s blockades across Serbia, the police arrested 79 people and registered 1,297 others. This clearly demonstrates the scale of the politically motivated pressure being exerted on citizens at the behest of the state leadership.
Our members are part of the civil resistance that takes place daily on the streets of Serbia, alongside students, schoolchildren, and citizens who courageously stand up to violence and intimidation. We will not tolerate a state that beats its own children and citizens and treats them as enemies.
Therefore, we demand:
The resignations of Interior Minister Ivica Dačić and Police Director Dragan Vasiljević, who, together with Aleksandar Vučić, bear the greatest responsibility for the use of unlawful force against citizens.
The immediate dismissal of all police officers who ordered the physical abuse of citizens.
The suspension and prosecution of all police officers who took part in these brutal attacks.
The protection of the right to freedom of assembly and protest, without violent attacks, the dispersal of demonstrations, or the arrest of peaceful protesters.
We will not allow the state to continue violating human rights and using violence as a means of preserving power. GP Solidarnost stands with the courageous generation of students and citizens who are fighting for justice, freedom, and dignity.
We call on all free-thinking individuals, organisations, and the international community to raise their voices against brutality and injustice. Together, and in solidarity, we will defend the dignity, freedom, and future of Serbia.
