Bokan in the theater - freedom in chains

GP Solidarity is following the events at the National Theater in Belgrade with deep concern. The rulebook - the order to silence - is a serious attack on the human right to freedom of speech and free, critical creativity.

Solidarity with cultural workers who, in addition to educators, have borne the enormous burden of protesting against the regime and who are facing a vengeful government and creeping fascism is the duty of free citizens.

We join the demands of the employees of the National Theater for the withdrawal of the scandalous rulebook, the dismissal of the Board of Directors, the responsibility of the Minister of Culture and the protection of artistic freedoms.

We call on all citizens, artists, students and institutions to stand by cultural workers and clearly demonstrate that we will not allow culture to be turned into a means of repression.

Today the National Theater, tomorrow all of Serbia.
